snow day...

"announced by all the trumpets of the sky,
arrives the snow, and, driving o'er the fields,
seems nowhere to alight: the white air
hides hill and woods, the river, and the heaven,
and veils the farmhouse at the garden's end.
the sled and traveller stopped, the courier's feet
delayed, all friends shut out, the housemates sit
around the radiant fireplace, enclosed
in a tumultuous privacy of storm."

~ from 'the snow-storm', ralph waldo emerson

a wintertime snow day...

we don't see too many of those down here in atlanta, so they're rather enjoyable when they do happen.  and unlike in brooklyn, this car dependent southern city essentially shuts down when we see more than a few inches of snow (and if you've ever seen some of the winter weather driving down here, you'll understand that this is a very good thing!)

this is the state of my car this morning... we also received a layer of ice on top of the snow, so i feel it's time to build a fire, put some cocoa on the stove, and pull out the blanket to curl up for a nice day in my pajamas

"those icicles have been known to kill people!"  ;)

happy monday (and happy snow day to many of you)

Looks beautiful. We are expecting a few more inches tomorrow. and yes those icicles have been known to kill people. one almost did me in a couple of weeks ago. either that or I tried to shoot me eye out.

we've had a full morning already... playing in snow twice, snowman building, sliding down the frozen slide, hot chocolate... and now time for a fire! love it!

you've accomplished a lot more than me! i've only made it out to take some pictures (in my pajamas).

sounds like you've had a fun morning... i need kids, so that playing in the snow, building snowmen, etc. looks acceptable as an adult! might look a bit strange if i went out and did these things by myself? ;)
