simple celebration...

on a whim yesterday afternoon, i put together a no-sew, ten minute banner, flung diagonally across the living room...  a banner bringing home a combination of a simple celebration of each new day/ a summer backyard picnic under a large swaying tree/ and a fluttering clothesline bathing in the sun.  each summer dream brings me a feeling of elation and warmth, and this string of pennants evokes, for me, all of these same feelings inside the room... and that is enough for me

this occurred after cleaning the dirt from under my nails... the result of a morning spent gardening... planting eggplant, tomato, and herb plants, procured from the local community garden plant sale  

a few heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, raveena eggplant, basil, rosemary, garlic chives, mint...

determined to grow some of my own food on my little garden deck (or to at least give it my best effort)... still in need of some stakes to hold the massive leafy, fruit-filled abundance that my mind envisions ;)  

in the interval, the herbs will flavor my appetite

an old, found, wooden chair, still in need of some care... but, for now, i will enjoy the touch of romantic whim it's lending to the garden

new life...

welcome to the world, kaylee!  and congratulations to my best friend andrea...  last summer i was fortunate enough to be standing beside her as she married her love, and now they've welcomed this sweet new life into the world.  kaylee weighed in at 8 lbs, 15 oz. and was 21.5" long!  

can't wait to meet her next month and kiss those sweet cheeks ;)

out of doors...

taking advantage of this deliciously warm georgia spring, by moving my workspace out of doors and onto the covered deck... here you will find me most days, enjoying the delights of nature; the birds' calls,  swaying pine trees, the breeze on my skin... as i busily stitch away on new spring creations.

the table and yellow chair were both thrifting finds (the other wooden chair was a side of the road find this week... needs a bit of tlc, but already hard at work showcasing new flowers and plants).  the beautiful stained glass window was a gift from my mom several years ago

the local nursery was having spectacular deals on annuals this week... and, on my way out into the greenhouse, i was forced to pass this sweet succulent, which somehow made it into my basket!  

this lovely birdhouse from farmer d organics is made of all natural materials (love the coconut roof)... trying to tempt the birds of the woods behind my house to visit me in my little enclave

the local community garden is having a plant sale this week... perfect timing, as i prepare my herb garden for the summer.  would love to try some tomatoes this year as well (as well as trying my hand at canning for next winter)

next on my list?  a few hanging plants, a curl up and read a book chair, and a sprinkling of lazy afternoons

farming in georgia...

as the weather warms, i'm looking forward to really beginning a new season of exploration around georgia... it has now been a year since i moved from new york (hard for me to believe).  and, somehow, in that year, i've still not visited the beautiful and historical city of savannah.  the above picture is incentive enough for me to change that status pronto!

but, for today, we will keep the adventure a bit more local... a trip to mcdaniel farm park, for roaming, picnicking, and nature exploring.  while tucked in so close to the bustle of atlanta, this farmland turned state park retains the farmhouses, outbuildings, and farm equipment... a fun, new exploration with my sister, nephew, and niece.  i am placing my camera in my bag right now so that i will not forget it this trip (after i first untangle the kitty, who appears to be thoroughly trapped in a ball of embroidery thread)

in the meantime, i hope you enjoy these beautiful farm inspired flickr lovelies... i could crawl into any one of these pictures and live a blissful life
