downton abbey...

while laid up with a case of the sicks this weekend, i set about looking for the perfect something to occupy my time... something with the perfect balance of 100 percent pleasure and 0 percent productivity.  that is when i found (and plowed through) the first season of 'downton abbey' (which is streaming on netflix right now).  the julian fellowes series, with a phenomenal cast that includes maggie smith and hugh bonneville, is just dripping with eye candy as a result of the top notch costume/set design and cinematography

while much of the series is filmed in and around the historic highclere castle, the servants quarters had to be recreated at ealing studios, as this area of the castle had changed considerably during the last century... and i am absolutely enamored with the design of the kitchen and staff rooms!  the subtle neutral colors, the simplistic design, and the soft light = perfection...

that being said, the lush apparel and rooms of the upper class is pretty wantonly delicious as well...

happy monday

spectacular, right?? the series should come with a warning that you are likely to become very distracted by the beauty of the rooms, making it necessary to re-watch several scenes
