this week at home...

a few photos from home this week... and, yes, i've switched every room in the house around.  the living room is the bedroom... the bedroom is the office... the office is the living room.  exhausting.

this move was initiated by a morning in which i awoke with a sudden, fevered (and was also literally feverishly sick at the time) desire to change everything about.  after two crazy hours of moving all of the furniture from room to room... tada! fortunately, it turned out that i was pleased with the end result.  for now.

the beautiful pillow my mom made for me, as a christmas gift this year...

speaking of christmas gifts... the gorgeous 'tree of life' that my sister designed and hand stitched...

around the house for spring...

a few new springtime images from around the house...

living room:

the firewood basket was a thriftstore find ($2) from a few weeks ago, which i'm just loving.  the rocking chair is one i've carried with me from my own childhood... i love seeing my niece and nephew now sitting here when they come to visit.

the lovely english pitcher is one i picked up from my aunt's shop.  the market basket i found a while back, from the antique store down the road... i've had this for months, and it wasn't until i uploaded this photo that i noticed the string from the price tag still attached!  (i do this way more frequently than i should admit to)

the beautiful antique, framed needlepoint was a birthday gift from my mom

dining room:

well, you can see that i still am working with a temporary table in here (and have yet to finish the cushions for these chairs).  i'm planning to move to a new place this summer, so it's probably best that i haven't picked up a table, until i know what kind of space i'll be working with in the new house.

the little drum shade on the white lamp was another thriftstore find ($2.99)... several of my lamps are in need of updated shades, so i'm always excited to find inexpensive shades like this one (new lampshades can be so expensive!)

bedroom:

there is something so appealing to me in mixing layer upon layer of pretty linens on the bed.

this pretty ikea duvet cover has been on my wish list for quite awhile... how excited i was to find one in the 'as is' department of the store (it was a european size which accidentally made it's way to the u.s. store... just meaning a larger pillow sham... and a much lower price!).  my sweet sister snagged this for me as a birthday gift.  the bedskirt, sheets, and pillowcase were all thriftstore finds.  the antique iron bed was one i bought years ago at auction, while i was still in college.

the white, eyelet trim curtains above were another thriftstore find... as was the floral duvet cover below (both $2).

work in progress...

working to finish this textile succulent (hand stitched in linen and wool) in a vintage japanese bud vase... hope to have this piece ready for listing this weekend ;)

and, for another more personal work in progress... my bedroom

my sister surprised me with this beautiful junecraft banner... what a delight to receive an unexpected gift in the mail!  and what a delight to wake up to this cheerful sight in the morning

i've also found a lovely new shade for my dresser... now i just need to purchase the paint and get busy!

inspiration on a thursday...

"a ruffled mind makes a restless pillow" ~ charlotte brontë

in need of some serious bedroom inspiration, for my bedroom has fallen flat... well, i haven't really put much work into it since moving in.  i have a few great vintage pieces... an antique green iron bed, my grandfather's old war trunk, a vintage 1940's dresser, a 1920's dressing table, but i need to pull them all together with a bit of color.  and, oh, the walls!  they are as bare as can be... they are crying out for pictures, art, shelves of books

so, today i thought i would share a few inspiring bedroom photos, as i begin the decorating journey for this room. this is an eclectic grouping of beautiful bedroom designs... and, since i am an eclectic type of girl, i hope to take bits of inspiration from each to create my own design and style

i've been hanging some images, dried flowers, vintage pieces, etc. on twine in order to throw a bit of color onto the walls for the present and to give me inspiration for where i want to take my design

i really want to paint the dresser (currently white with glass knobs) a luscious shade of blue/gray... finding the exact color i desire always takes a bit of time

and new bed linens always help spruce up a room... i thinks something with a nice print will pair well with the iron bed

well, for now i'm off to complete more mundane tasks like laundry :(
